As we mentioned in the original post, we are in the process of making some big changes to the site. Two of the biggest changes coming are a redesign (we want to make the site more user friendly, less busy and easier to find the resources you’re looking for) and a URL change from 993C4S.com to FlatSixes.com.
Because our Porsche(s) are air-cooled, when we first started this site, our idea was to focus specifically on those type of Porsches. Combine this with the fact that our favorite Porsche is a 993, and you can probably see why we decided to name the site 993C4S.com. Lately, as we’ve expanded the site, the name has become a bit confusing; it infers that this site is model specific, when in fact, it is about all Porsche Cars, Products and LifeStyle.
This site receives about 10,000 unique visitors per month. So, with more than 200 of you participating in the poll you provided us with a great representation of what type of Porsches the current visitors to our site drive and own. The results speak for themselves:
Not surprisingly the largest number, with 57 votes, was the Porsche 993. What was surprising, given the confusion with the URL, was the diversity amongst the other Porsche models.
- Water-cooled cars had a great showing across a number of different models including the 996, 911SC and 930s, 924/944/951/968 and Boxsters.
- The least represented were the older air-cooled Porsches (356, pre-impact bumper 911s, 914 and 912) along with the newer Cayenne and Cayman.
- The biggest surprise of all was that seven (7) of you claim to be owners of the Porsche Carrera GT! Now, we’re not calling anyone a liar, but let’s see some pictures. 🙂

I also missed the poll -- I have a '74 911. BTW, in the article above it says you are making "..a URL change from 993C4S.com to FlatSixes.com." I think you intended to say the reverse correct? At least I recall the URL being Flat Sixes for as long as I have subscribed. Also, IMO, if you are changing to 993C4S - that's too model specific. By changing to 993C4S you imly an exclusion of those who own or are interested in the Porsches not well represented in the polling. Flatsixes.com is a much better name.
I am looking forward to the website change! Making it easier to use is very welcome! I also suggest you have someone spend some time checking the links. There are few things more frustating than links that are dead or ones that lead somewhere that is un-related.

Larry, this post was first published in 2008. What it says is correct. The original name of the site was 993C4S.com. It was then changed to PorschePurist.com until Porsche asked us to change it. That's where FLATSIXES.com came from.
As for making the site easier to use, we're always open to suggestions. Let us know what you have in mind. Lastly, as we've been publishing this site since 2007 there are literally 1000s of posts and 10s of thousands of links. We correct broken links as we can, but appreciate it when people point them out as well.
