Porsche GT3 Cup Car Flips 9 Times During Race. Driver Escapes With Just Bruises!

Sports car racing is a dangerous pursuit. Yes, safety technology has increased to the point where we almost expect drivers to walk away from most accidents unscathed, but it’s a false sense of security as witnessed by a few of motorsports’ recent tragic events. The fact is, these brave drivers are piloting thousands of pounds of metal, at unfathomable speeds, skating a thin line between control and destruction.

When I first saw the video above it reminded me a little of the time Mark Webber crashed his 919 in São Paulo, it just didn’t seem like someone could walk away from it. But walk away is exactly what Pedro Piquet did this weekend in Brazil after he and fellow racer Ricardo Baptisa made contact during the Porsche GT3 Cup race. After nine heart stopping flips, Pedro’s GT3 came to a rest on the tarmac. According to reports we read, and Pedro’s Instagram account, the 17-year-old racer suffered only minor injuries to his hand and some bruising. Some bruising? That’s an understatement!

  • It works out when you are 17, like falling off a ladder - but don't wait until middle age to do it!
Best of luck to a future Senna, perhaps. :-)
