When Porsche reached one million fans on their facebook page they held a contest. They did it again when they reached two million fans and most recently, in late 2013, when they reached five million fans. Now, barely 18 months later, Porsche hit a huge milestone, 10,000,000 facebook fans. Guess what they’re doing to celebrate? That’s right, another contest and this time it has a 918 Spyder mixed into it!
Special Thanks To The Fans: An Unforgettable Road Trip
To thanks fans for reaching the 10,000,000 mark, Porsche has come up with a special contest that gives fans the opportunity to win a road trip in a Porsche 918 Spyder. Tying the contest into the number of fans, the trip will cover a distance of ten million decimeters – which converts to 1000 kilometres (or 621 miles for those of you who are metrically challenged).
To enter, you’ll need to visit the special micro-site Porsche developed just for the contest. Once there you’ll have the chance to browse through a panoramic photo that illustrates a section of the chosen route included in the road trip. All you have to do is guess where in the world that section of road is by placing a pin on the supplied map. Once you submit your answer, the site will tell you how far you are from the actual destination (without giving away its location). In addition, you can choose who you would want to travel with in the event you win.
The person who is closest to the actual site will win the trip together with a companion of their choice.
The Fine Print
I have to say we were really excited when we saw this contest. Porsche will pick-up your transportation costs, hotel costs, etc. In addition, you can bring a friend of your choosing and then spend 5-days on the road in a Porsche 918. What’s not to like? Well, there is a catch. You’ll be a passenger in the 918 accompanied by a professional driver. The fine print says you won’t get to drive it. I guess it’s understandable given the cost of the car (and the fact that they’re all sold). None the less, it would be great for even a short opportunity to get behind the wheel.
