One of the joys of driving a Porsche is in getting out there and getting a little bit lost. Sometimes you’ll go for a drive just for the fun of it, to experience a little bit of connection with your car on a good driving road with good scenery. Thankfully Porsche understands that, and is invested in helping us find new roads to enjoy. Not only does promoting the enjoyment of driving help you connect better with your Porsche if you have one, but the app might convince non-Porsche-owners to look into the brand. With a new app called ROADS, free and open to every kind of driver (yes, even the ones who don’t own a Porsche), the company has developed a useful and interesting mapping app for enthusiasts.
You might already be a ROADS map app member, as the app itself launched back in 2019, and we’ve been using it ever since. This week Porsche rolled out a massive revamp of the app to include a new advanced computer model to help create new scenic routes on the fly for you to drive.
“The centerpiece of the new ROADS app is the generator for scenic routes”, says Robert Ader, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Porsche AG. “It allows driving fans to find their own individual dream route with just a few clicks. AI works out a suitable route based on various parameters such as the curves of the road, the topography, landscape features, or exciting points of interest. From their starting point, the user can plan a circuit route or navigate to a specific destination – no matter where in the world they are.”
I spent some time playing around with the revamped app this week, and it’s a huge step in the right direction. With 180,000 members already sharing their favorite driving routes, there’s likely already a good route for you to pick from the user generated list, but you can also populate a unique driving route with some input to tell the app a little about your preferences. It’s a cool feature that I’ve been hoping someone would implement for years. I’m extremely glad it was Porsche who came up with this technology. If you haven’t already, definitely add the ROADS app to your phone asap. It even works with most Apple CarPlay systems.
The app will even allow you to put in a destination and then find the fun way there, in case you still have to be responsible but want to have a little driving treat. What a great feature!
