You’re off to Germany for a holiday, you can’t take your Porsche with you, but you want to run some hot laps at the famous Nurburgring; what’s a guy to do? Don’t fret, simply contact Auteg Motorsport (located right at the ‘ring’) and they will be happy to rent you a Porsche 996 GT3 RS. Before you get too excited, it is not cheap and you may not qualify.
Auteg Motorsport is in the business of track day cars for hire. However, given the complexity and dangers involved in running the ‘ring’ they want to make sure you know your way around (pun intended) before they set you lose in a car like a GT3 RS. “We wouldn’t just allow anyone to take the car out.” explains Glen Richardson of Auteg. “At the least, we would want to sit in with you for a couple of laps, and maybe steer you towards a two-hour training course. But if you already have a lot of laps under your belt we’d probably know you, anyway, so you could go straight out.”
According to the Auteg Motorsport web-site, cost for renting the Porsche GT3 is just north of $2700 during the day and $1500 in the evening (at today’s currency conversion rates). Prices DO NOT include petrol or the cost of lap tickets. They do, however, include some insurance coverage. Even with the included policy, supplementary insurance is available and advised.
Driver’s Education is Recommended
If you do opt for a training class, they offer both private and group classes in two hour or all day events. Prices range from $400 for a two-hour class all the way to $2500 for private all day training (prices may be lower if you combine training with a renta)l. The great thing about the training classes is they do include both gas and lap tickets (which are expensive in their own right).
Based on the article I read (and have quoted from) in 911 & Porsche World, the rental period is for 200 kilometers; that equates to about 10 laps on the 13 mile long Nurburgring. Plenty of time to have fun and more than enough to get into serious trouble.

Here's absolute heaven: oder a 997, ask for European Delivery, drive it 'round Germany kindly for 2000 miles or so, and then...off to the Nordschleife!

I've heard rumors that if you're going to do European Delivery, you will want to do it soon. Reason being, they are contemplating speed limits across the entire Autobahn.
