C.J. Wilson is Committed to Motorsport

C.J. Wilson officially retired from Major League Baseball earlier this year. However, having not pitched a game since July of 2015, he’s effectively been out for much longer than that. Along with his “official” retirement came word that the former All-Star purchased three car dealerships, including Porsche of Fresno. That purchase dovetailed nicely with his existing race team, CJ Wilson Racing.

As a professional baseball player CJ was contractually prohibited from taking part in professional racing. Now retired, and the owner of a race team and a Porsche dealership, there’s nothing to hold him back.

“The ultimate goal of any endurance racer is to go to France and win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Why would my goal be any different?”, said Wilson as part of a promotional video for Porsche.

To get to Le Mans, Wilson needs experience and speed. He’s working on both of those as a driver in the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama. Similar to “stock car” racing, all the Porsches are identical in terms of performance. That means it’s up to the driver to provide the differentiating factor.

C.J. made his debut this season at Sebring. Since then he’s raced in two more events. He currently sits at 13 out of 20 and climbing.

Did you guys catch the internet article this week from Road n Track's writer by Jack Baruth
" Why The 996 Generation Porsche Will Never Be Collectible " This guy is what Ralph Nader was to the Corvair , single handedly trying to give the death blow to 996's . I am currently on my 5th Porsche over the years, it is a 996 C2 Cab that I very much enjoy driving. After getting past the IMS issue this has been a great car for the money. Perhaps a future story / rebuttal for Flat Sixes
