Video: Behind The Scenes Of Porsche’s 919 LMP1 Testing

Today, Porsche has released a very dramatic view behind the scenes of recent tests conducted at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Porsche was on track in preparation for an all-out attack on the World Endurance Championship. Importantly, this FIA world championship series includes a run at the overall victory in June’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche has been away from top-tier sports car racing since the late 1990s, and this year they’re coming back in style.

The number one thing that I notice about this video, excellent on-track footage notwithstanding, is that Porsche is adamant in using the plural personal pronoun “we”. We is an important word to Porsche, as it displays their commitment to the team mentality. Nowhere is the team more important than in endurance sports car racing. The details of getting the car built, prepared, and ready to race is just as important as the inch-perfect driving, and meticulous pit-work must transpire for Porsche to come out with the victory at the end of a 24 hour race.

No single individual can win on their own, and every cog in the machine is vitally important. Even “we” Porsche fanatics are important, as our expectation of perfection has helped propel Porsche to 16 Le Mans victories in the past, more than any other manufacturer. Here’s hoping that “we” can do it again.
