Crashes at any speed are scary, but a crash in a Le Mans LMP1 prototype during an overtaking maneuver is another level of scary. What’s amazing to me is that the very 911 Brendon hits while trying to go by is the reason this accident wasn’t worse than it was. Watch as Brendon’s 919 turns onto its side. See how the 911’s momentum carries it into the 919 and turns the LMP1 car back upright? This could have been much worse.

We Still Can’t Believe Brendon Hartley’s 919 LMP1 Didn’t Flip During This Crash

I watched this as it happened, and was absolutely stunned that the leader of the race would take such risks. The closing speeds between an LMP1-H and a GTE-Am car are astounding, and I'm positive I would have ended up in a worse predicament had I been driving.
It was a disappointing finish for the 2015 champions, but 'that's racing' as they say.
Somehow I don't imagine Brendon Hartley has heard the end of it.
