Did You Know That Each Team Is Allocated Fuel On A Per Lap Basis During The 24 Hours Of Le Mans?

That’s right, each team is allocated a certain amount of fuel, petrol or diesel for each lap covered. There is a slight margin for error and drivers can make up mistakes made during one lap in the next two laps (basically giving them a three lap window to stay within their allotted fuel amount). If they are unable to stay within their allocated amount (corrected or otherwise) then they are penalized with a stop and go or drive-through penalty. This 4th video (in 12 video series) from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest explains how the fuel itself is playing a part in helping teams to reach a goal of 30% less fuel consumption during the race. It seems like we can expect to see some of this fuel tech make it’s way to our road going cars in the near future.
