Porsche joined Formula E this season with a reasonably successful debut in the opening round. How did our favorite sports car brand get to this point? How much work, effort, simulator testing, manufacturing, and testing had to be completed to get two finished cars and teams ready to ship off to Diriyah for the first e-Prix of the season? As it turns out, quite a lot.
Check out this video, chronicling Porsche’s rise to Formula E after the demise of its World Endurance Championship LMP1 effort at the end of the 2017 season. To have a pair of fully electric racing cars up and running, ready to compete at the first round of a new series just two years later is an incredible feat, and Porsche accomplished just that. To be able to shift gears from endurance racing to sprint racing, from hybrid closed cockpit prototypes to electric open wheelers, it’s just been awesome to watch this whole thing unfold.
This is a nice long-form documentary at about 26 minutes in length, so sit back and check it out. Maybe load it up on your smart TV for an immersive viewing experience. It’s pretty neat.
