Is it True? Is Mark Webber Leaving F1 and Joining Porsche?

For some time now rumors of a move to Porsche, by Australian F1 driver Mark Webber, have been simmering on the web. After trouble with teammate Sebastian Vettel, during the Malaysian GP, the rumors seemed to pick up tempo and credence. Now, it seems like there really is something to all the rumbling. Last night, Radio Le Mans announced that Webber officially signed a five-year deal to drive for Porsche in their renewed factory efforts at Le Mans.

According to Radio Le Mans, Webber will finish the F1 season before making the change. We have questions into Porsche, but as of time of posting there is no official word from either Germany or from Webber’s camp. For now, we’ll have to keep this as rumor, but hopefully can confirm it as true soon. I for one hope it’s the rea; deal as Webber’s an incredible driver, has previous Le Mans experience (with Mercedes) and would be a fantastic addition to the Porsche team.

UPDATE: 4-15-2013 Early this morning Porsche responded to our request for information about Webber joining Porsche and to take part in testing. Their response was a strong denials. Mr. Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche’s board member in charge of R&D (which includes all Weissach activities) said, “There is a test plan and for sure Mark Webber is not part of them.” He went on to add, “We can have perhaps some Formula One drivers in the future but it is not necessary.
