Jeff Zwart Is Returning To Pikes Peak In A New Porsche 935

If you’ve been paying attention to certain spheres of social media, you’ve known that Jeff Zwart would be racing a new 935 at Pikes Peak for quite some time now. The expert racer/photographer first teased the project back in October, and officially announced he’d been PPIHC accepted in February. It’s been a long time coming, and we could not be any more excited for this adventure. The whole project will be documented from start to finish and released as a mini-doc after the race. I’m especially looking forward to that!

Obviously, by now, you’ve heard of the new Porsche 935. Based on the 991 GT2 RS Clubsport, the 935 takes that car to new heights with special slant-nose bodywork, a long tail, and a massive rear wing. It’s wider, lower, and race ready from stem to stern. It’s got the same 691 horsepower turbocharged flat six mated to a 7-speed PDK gearbox. Only 77 units of this incredible car were built, so it’s totally awesome to see Zwart racing one of these super-limited cars rather than it just joining a collection and never seeing the light of day again.

As for his part, Mr. Zwart hasn’t raced at Pikes Peak for a few years now, slotting into a coaching position for Porsche’s GT4 Clubsport spec class. Prior to that, he’d been racing up the hill since the early 1990s, taking ten different Porsches to eight different class championships over a span of 14 years. His most recent win, the 2015 Time Attack Class victory, was taken in a highly-modified turbocharged 997 GT3 Cup. You may remember back in 2011, he competed in the race with essentially a bone stock 997 GT2 RS production street car, which he road tripped to the mountain from Southern California.

Unfortunately, I don’t think he’ll be road tripping to Colorado in the 935, as it is expressly not street legal.

No matter what happens, we’re looking forward to seeing Jeff on the mountain again, it’s been one of the things missing from the event for the last couple of years. In our eyes, both Jeff and Porsche are staples of this event and it isn’t right to run it without either. Best of luck Jeff, we’re rooting for you.

  • Aussie Rusty French's 935 was in display early in the year at Porsche Doncaster Melbourne show rooms and it would have to be best looking Porsche in it's natural state of Carbon Fibre, just beautiful.
