In the annals of Porsche Motorsport history, especially here in North America, ANDIAL has a long and storied role. Back in 1975, Arnold Wagner, Dieter Inzenhofer, and Alwin Springer left Vasek Polak Porsche to form their own Porsche tuning and race preparation shop in Southern California. Their shop was responsible for build and preparation of hundreds of highly successful racing cars in North America through the 70s, 80s, and 90s. As the gentlemen aged, business slowed, and Porsche Motorsport North America purchased the brand when the last holdout, Dieter, retired last year.
Now a division of PMNA, ANDIAL is back at work preparing customer racing cars again, and they have finished the first of five special ANDIAL Edition race ready 911s. While PMNA is mostly concerned with providing support and parts to their customers campaigning the current 991 generation RSRs, GT Americas, and GT3 Cups, ANDIAL will focus on refurbishing and modifying last generation (997) and earlier Porsche race cars, it seems.
Klaus Viljanmaa brought his 2011 997 GT3 Cup Challenge car, which was in good shape, to ANDIAL for a complete refresh and mechanical overhaul. He was looking for more power, and wanted something special, something a name like ANDIAL could deliver. Thanks to the geniuses at PMNA and ANDIAL, Viljanmaa’s Cup car now sports a 4.0 liter engine upgraded with a GT3 R’s rotating assembly, replacing the standard Cup 3.8. Additionally, the engine is topped with a one-of-five ANDIAL Gold Emblem intake manifold, all new plumbing connections, and a complete top-end rebuild. Where the car’s old engine made a paltry 450 horsepower, the new one has a stonking good 515! Where the car is used, PCA’s GT1 class, it might do pretty well.
Outside of the engine, ANDIAL also included a set of two-way adjustable Motion Control Suspension dampers, and an improved braking system that makes best use of Bosch’s newest ABS. The engine’s new power is routed through installation of the latest transmission for this chassis, the Porsche 997/63 six-speed dogbox sequential gearbox, which was fitted with a K-P-M pneumatic paddle shifter system. Add the new Motec color display, and the PMNA technicians produced a racecar its founders would be proud of.
