Last weekend, during the Glasbach Rennen round of the FIA European Hill Climb Championship, the Le Mans winning driver set a new course record for GT and Touring vehicles while driving a standard 991 GT3 Cup car. This video is amazing from start to finish, showing off the 35 year old’s amazing talent and quick reflexes. It’s obvious he knows the course well, but the ability to react to what the car is doing at a moment’s notice is astonishing.
How to Watch
We’ve all known that Timo is mega-talented behind the wheel, but it’s rare that we get a glimpse of that talent from inside the car. Sit back, throw on a good set of headphones, turn up the volume, click over to full screen, and enjoy this video. While it’s not available in 4K, 720P is pretty good for most of us, right? Just listen to the high-pitched wail of the gearbox from inside the car, it nearly drowns out the engine! I particularly enjoy the little flick right-left chicane that is in the middle of the course. I’m not often comfortable sitting in the passenger seat, but I’d be perfectly happy to right-seat if Timo were driving.
The video description from the German Carrera Cup Facebook page offers the following description (translated from German, obviously):
Sports car world champion at the Glasbachrennen Timo Bernhard starts in the fia hill climb European Championship with the Porsche 911 Gt3 Cup from Marek Böckmann and is doing a new course record for touring and GT-vehicles. Congratulations Timo – great job.
