Porsche Road Rally in Russia

I’m not sure that Russia is the safest place for Porsche owners given the recent hi-profile car jacking of Russian body guard Anna Loginova. None the less, according to reports from various Russian news sources it would appear that the government of the Altai Republic may be sparing no expense to attract the well know German sports car Marque, and their well healed owners, to some spirited road driving courses in the central Asian Russian republic.

Exactly where is this place?

For those of you unsure of the location for these proposed road courses, think cold, very cold. The Altai Region/Republic is located in the Siberian District (as in the place the KBG used to send people for punishment). An area more well know for the Porsche Trans-Siberian Rally, the region has a scarcity of paved roads and a very short and temperate summer season (June through August) this will most likely be the prime time for any possible tours.

Most hot spots for tourism in the Altai Region/Republic are located along the Chuiskiy highway, which is the main road from the north into the mountains (although it is currently only two lanes wide). I’m sure a two lane highway through Siberian mountains could make for some spirited driving.

It remains to be seen if this one will come to fruition and how well received it will be by the Porsche community in general.

According to Wikipedia:

Some of the more well-known tourist spots in the Altai region include Lake Aiya (a popular bathing spot), Belokurikha (known for its mineral water springs), and the picturesque Chemal region. More adventurous travelers may wish to visit the more remote Lake Teletskoye or Mount Belukha in the south.
