The 992 GT3 Cup is an amazing piece of motorsport equipment, and it’s a pretty difficult one to get your hands on these days. While Porsche is busy toiling away creating more of these flat-out track monsters, and the ones that exist are already getting thrashed on track in various GT3 Cup series around the world, the car is beyond the reach of most Porsche enthusiasts. You may not ever get the opportunity to drive one in meatspace, but coming next month you’ll get the highly realistic virtual opportunity to race one in the world of motorsport simulator iRacing.
Porsche and iRacing are a match made in heaven, as the servers already offer you the opportunity to race a 919 Hybrid LMP1, a 911 RSR GTE machine, a 991-generation 911 GT3 R, and a Cayman GT4 Clubsport. This addition of the new GT3 Cup fills a gap in Porsche Motorsport chassis available on iRacing. Now you can properly climb the Porsche ladder of performance from the bottom rung to the tippy top.
“iRacing is proud to welcome the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to the sim for Sept.,” said iRacing executive vice president Steve Myers. “Our lineup of Porsche vehicles has always proven quite popular across special events, public series, and hosted races, and we expect the updated 911 GT3 Cup car to be similarly well-received among iRacers around the world.”
With 510 horsepower, and a whole lot of upgrades over its 991-generation predecessor, the new 992 GT3 Cup is among the most advanced single-make racing series in the world. The new chassis is lighter, includes a more advanced double-wishbone front suspension, a new shift control system, extra safety features, and a more powerful engine, meaning your lap times will get quicker for sure. Of course the extra safety doesn’t really get noticed in a virtual space, it’s pretty important out here in the real world.
The 992 GT3 Cup joins iRacing on Sept. 4 with a special event featuring influencers running a special event at Hockenheim. Check out Twitch.tv/Porsche at 2PM Eastern next Saturday to watch that race go down.
The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) packs a 510-horsepower punch and introduces a fresh slate of upgrades from its predecessor. Besides an increase in power in its 4.0-liter flat-six power plant, included in the evolution from the 991.2 generation model are a new chassis design with increased aluminum usage, double wishbone front suspension, a new electronic shift system, safety features, and more. The real-world version of the car made its debut in time for the 2021 Porsche Supercup season.
