Heading north to Sonoma this weekend for the finale of the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge Series at Sears Point Raceway TruSpeed is in the hunt. While the factory Cadillac team mathematically clinched the driver’s and manufacturer’s championships two weeks ago at Mid-Ohio, the privateer TruSpeed team is aiming for 2nd place in the team and manufacturer’s championships, and looks to keep the factory Volvos behind them.
What’s So Great About Second Place?
If you’re really competitive you might think it’s just the first loser. However, in this instance, you need to remember that TruSpeed is a privateer with no direct factory support competing against teams with essentially limitless funds and support (Cadillac and Volvo are both factory teams). That’s a huge feather in TruSpeed’s cap.
Team Manager Tyler Tadevic said, “Sonoma is a track at which Porsche and our team have historically had a lot of success. In 2011, we set the pole there and won both races, and while there’s been some small configuration changes to the circuit, we’re confident that we’re going to roll off the truck with a good setup on the cars from our historical data. We’re thrilled to have Brandon Davis join us, and we feel that with he and Lawson, we’ve got two former GT champions in our cars this weekend. We need to give it our all to finish strong in the championship, and while we’ve conceded winning the championships to the Cadillac team, we’ve still got the factory Volvos nipping at our heels. We’re thrilled to have Brett and Jeff racing with us again, and we’re hopeful to get them back with the team in 2013.”
He continued, “Our hats are off to the Cadillac guys for such a great season. Those guys are stiff competition, but they’re racers through and through, and it’s always a great challenge to go head-to-head with them. We’re looking forward to a strong result this weekend to give us some momentum heading into the offseason, and we’re excited to butt heads with the Cadillac boys again next season.”
