Have you ever wanted to know what exactly it would sound like to be inside a demon? Jeff Zwart’s BBi Autosport-built 997 GT3 Cup Turbo hillclimb car gives a pretty close approximation, and now you can feel like you are right there with Jeff as he canes the beast up the Pikes Peak hill. The Porsche, a wild and nearly un-tamable leviathan of power, has all of the traditional transmission howl and engine scream that we’re used to with GT3 cup cars, but that whoosh of building boost, and the crashing shriek of the excess compressed air escaping on the overrun are entirely foreign to the Cup car, sounding more like they belong on a WRC contender. It sounds like hell on wheels, because for all intents and purposes, it is.
Mister Zwart has racked up 7 wins at the famous Pikes Peak International HillClimb, and was looking for an 8th class victory earlier this month when he showed up yet again with his bespoke GT3 Turbo Cup. Unfortunately, he ran into a few issues with the car’s fuel delivery system, suffering a partial fuel pump failure. The car continued to run all the way up to the top, but the low fuel delivery really hampered Zwarts ability to hit full throttle and full boost pressure. Watching the video, especially in the second half of the run, it is easy to tell that he is losing huge swathes of time, and the car isn’t shining at its full potential. Even still, with an excellent chassis, and a great driver at the wheel, Jeff still managed to finish second in class, only about 1.2 seconds away from the victory.
