ICE-powered Macan may make a return

Last year, Porsche introduced the Macan EV to the world as the German automaker’s second fully electric vehicle following the Taycan. With the new Macan EV, Porsche made the decision to discontinue the ICE-powered Macan in certain markets, although that hasn’t happened in most places around the world. However, that decision may be taken off the table according to a report from Autocar. Porsche is reconsidering an ICE-powered Macan as sales for EVs continue to take a dip worldwide, including the Taycan. In fact, sales of the Taycan fell by 50 percent and was the brand’s worst-performing model last year.

Initially, Porsche had a target of having EVs account for 80 percent of its global sales by 2030, but has since reframed the target to “depend on customer demand.” According to deputy chairman and chief financial officer Lutz Meschke, Porsche is “exploring the possibility of equipping some of the originally planned electric models with hybrid drives or internal combustion engines in the future.”
