Three Months In Jail For The Two Men Suspected Of Stealing Parts From Porsche Paul Walker Was Killed In

UPDATE 8/14/2014: Despite a plea bargain, the Judge threw the book at Jameson Witty yesterday sentencing him to 6 months in jail instead of the 3 that was expected as part of the plea bargain with prosecution. For those of you who thought 3 months wasn’t enough, it seemed the judge agreed. Anthony Jadow, Witty’s accomplice took the same plea and is now expected to receive the same punishment during his sentencing in October.

As the Porsche Carrera GT that Paul Walker and Roger Rodas lost their lives in was being towed from the scene, two men (Jameson Witty and Anthony Janow) allegedly stole a part from the wreck (one of the roof panels) as it was stopped at a red-light. Not only were there witnesses to their alleged actions, someone with the profile name ‘Jameson Witty’ posted images to their Instagram account showing what looks like the car part along with the caption, “Piece of Paul walkers car, took it off a tow truck at a stop light.” Following a short investigation Witty was arrested and Janow surrendered of his own accord. Today they had their day in court.

According to a story in The Santa Clarita Valley Signal both entered no contest pleas (they didn’t admit or dispute the charge) in exchange for three months in jail. The story goes on to quote Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as saying the following,

“Witty entered an open plea to the court of no contest to one misdemeanor count each of grand theft of personal property, destroying evidence and resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer.”

and

“Janow entered an open plea of no contest to one felony count of grand theft of personal property and one misdemeanor count each of destroying evidence and resisting, obstructing and delaying a peace officer.”

While it looks like their no contest plea was part of a deal with prosecutors, they could face up to 180 days in county jail. Janow will learn his ultimate fate at a sentencing hearing on August 14th and Witty his on October 23rd.

  • I understand taking actions against the guys, but come-on, 3-months in jail? Its a $400,000 car, im sure everybody would love to take a piece of one and especially if its the one paul walker was in. The punishment is just a little too unjust.

    • While I agree that 3 months might be a bit long, I don't think the fact that "everybody would love to take a piece of one and especially if its the one paul walker was in" should make a difference. Regardless, I can't imagine them serving any more than a week or two of the sentence given California's issues with overpopulation in their prisons.

  • I think 3 months is the minimum they should serve. These jackasses deserve to be sentenced even more. How has our society gotten so soft now and thinks these guys should just get a slap on the wrist for taking stuff that is not theirs?

  • While I doubt they will actually do 3 months, I do think the punishment fits the crime. First off, these guys are f#@king ghouls. Maybe that's OK on the star struck left coast, but I think most people would find it pretty sick.
Also, if they're just grabbing shit off the tow truck, who knows if they might get a hold of a piece that's vital to the investigation of the cause of the crash. Maybe some time in the pokey will teach these meat-heads to keep their hands off other peoples stuff.

  • Cliff, I agree with you, even as a left coast resident (not far from where the wreck happened, and a retired worker from the motion picture industry) they are sick shits, for sure.
