Porsche Just Recorded Their Best Quarter In Its History

Porsche AG just released delivery numbers for the 1st quarter of 2017 and they are off to a strong start. With nearly 60,000 Porsches delivered to customers worldwide they are up 7% over the same period last year. This makes Q1 2017 Porsche’s best first quarter in the history of the company.

“Porsche has made a successful start with the new Panamera – this trend now needs to continue throughout the rest of the year”, said Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. “Our attractive model range gives us an outstanding basis to achieve this”. Porsche presented no fewer than three new models at the Geneva Motor Show: the new Panamera Sport Turismo, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and the 911 GT3. The market launch for the new 911 GT3 will take place in May, with the S E-Hybrid following in July and the Panamera Sport Turismo in October. “All three models have the typical Porsche genes and will ensure that this positive start to the year continues”, added Detlev von Platen. A further highlight for the Chinese market will be presented next week at the Auto Shanghai motor show.

What’s Selling and Where?

In years past, the U.S. was always Porsche’s strongest single market. However, a couple of years ago, China pulled into the lead and has been increasing their dominance ever since. This was no different for this first quarter of 2017. With a total of 18,126 Porsches delivered, the Chinese market exceeded last year’s result by 10%. In Europe, Porsche delivered 19,084 units (an increase of 7%). In Germany, a whopping 19% increase equated to 7,160 Porsches delivered. Here in the U.S. growth was 4% over last year for a total of 12,718 Porsches going to new owners.

The figures for the new Panamera are telling and should continue to grow. 3,630 of the redesigned sedan were delivered worldwide, an increase of 12% over last year. This number will most likely continue to grow as more cars come into dealer inventory. Not surprisingly, the Macan continued its dominance as the best-selling Porsche with 24,797 units delivered, representing an increase of 15%.

Porsche’s US Sales Figures for Q1 2017

If you take a closer look at Porsche’s U.S. numbers, you can see that of those twelve thousand plus Porsches delivered, just 3,124 were sports cars (1,106 Boxster/Caymans and 2,018 911s). The Macan was the clear leader with 5,337 units delivered followed closely by the Cayenne at 3,640 and the Panamera at 617.
