Revolutionizing speed: Porsche Taycan sets a new benchmark at Nürburgring

Porsche has once again demonstrated its prowess in the electric vehicle arena with its pre-series Taycan, setting a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This record-breaking lap, clocked at 7:07.55 minutes, was achieved by Porsche development driver Lars Kern. This time is a significant 26 seconds faster than the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S in August 2022.

The achievement is not just a testament to speed, but also to the Taycan’s ability to sustain high performance over long distances, a challenge for many electric vehicles. The consistency of the Taycan’s performance is also notable, as Kern was able to record almost the same time over several laps. This puts the Taycan in direct competition with top-tier internal combustion cars and electric hypercars.

Under the hood, the new top-spec Taycan is expected to feature three motors, surpassing the two motors in the Turbo S, and delivering over 800PS (588kW) of power. This significant power upgrade is expected to offer enhanced torque vectoring and power distribution, particularly on the rear axle.

The Taycan prototype’s performance has even surpassed that of the Tesla Model S Plaid by 18 seconds, highlighting the rapid advancements in electric vehicle technology. Porsche’s new Taycan model, possibly named the Turbo GT, is set to redefine expectations for electric performance cars.

Porsche plans to reveal more details about this high-performance Taycan model soon, with an official onboard video of the record-breaking lap expected to be released in March. This new model is not just a milestone for Porsche but a significant moment in the evolution of electric vehicles in high-performance settings.
