There’s an unwritten rule about not messing with another person’s car. There are definitely written rules about arson, but it’s all the more egregious when the subject of the attack is an innocent Porsche. This poor Cayenne was lit up and burned to the ground at about 5:30 in the morning on December 29th, and nobody seems to know who would have done such a thing or why. Toronto police do not seem to have any leads on the suspect, and he’s described only as “wearing a dark jacket, gloves, and black boots”. That doesn’t seem much to go on.
We aren’t going to touch on the psychology or motives of arsonists, but it is possible that this attack was some kind of retaliatory display, or perhaps they just enjoy the act of destruction. According to the news report, embedded below, the unidentified subject walked up to the parked Cayenne three separate times. The first was a scouting mission to see if anyone would notice him. The second involved smashing the front passenger window for ease of access to the interior. The third arrival to the vehicle ended with the man reaching into the cabin and igniting some kind of accelerant.
You can plainly see in the video that the arsonist recoils from the blast with his hand still inside the vehicle. Police have noted that he may have sustained injury to the left arm. Anyone with information in the case is urged to contact the Toronto Police Service at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
