One of the objections to buying an electric car, such as the Porsche Taycan, I rear regularly is the lack of public DC fast charging. While it’s only ever really critical for longer road trips, the North American EV buyer still wants to know that they can take a road trip and not get stranded. Thanks to efforts from Electrify America and others that’s becoming less of an issue.
In fact, Electrify America chargers are the chargers ideal for the Taycan. They support up to 350 kW fast charging, and once Taycan officially gets Plug&Charge support, charging your Taycan is as easy as plugging in and walking away. The car and Electrify America handle the rest.
In the “More Good News” department, in less than 3 years Electrify America has rolled out 600 different DC fast charging locations with over 2,600 individual fast chargers. Many of those chargers came during the pandemic. The company is expecting to have 800 stations and 3,500 individual stalls by the end of the year. Electrify America already covers several major routes across the country.
“With our rapid station deployment, we are on track to have 800 charging stations with about 3,500 chargers open or under development by the end of this year — delivering on our commitment to make EV driving easier and more accessible,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and chief executive officer, Electrify America.
It’s important to remember that the charging networks are only going to get better from here on it. There might be a lot of reasons why you wouldn’t consider a Taycan or Taycan Cross Turismo, just don’t let charging infrastructure be one of them.
