You likely played with them when you were a kid; ignored them when you were a teen; and now as an adult, you wish you could find the time to build them. Nowadays, LEGO sets are enjoyed by people of all ages, and some of the more intricate kits are very detailed and advanced with moving parts. They’ve also become a sort of collectible, with limited units put into production for certain sets.

If you’ve paid attention to Porsche and LEGOs over the last few years, you know the two companies have formed quite the relationship. Whether you’re shopping for a gift or for yourself, there are several kits out there to choose from. Where things get a bit complicated however are when certain LEGO sets are discontinued and as a result, their price skyrocket due to demand.

In this post, we’ll spotlight what we consider to be the best Porsche LEGO sets currently available, as well as noting which ones are no longer in production but worth getting if you can afford it. We’ll keep this post updated whenever new LEGO Porsche sets are announced, as well as when others have been discontinued.

1. Top pick: LEGO Technic Porsche 911 RSR

Currently, this is our favorite Porsche LEGO set that’s available and that’s simply because we’re huge fans of the 911 RSR. It’s a LEGO Technic creation featuring 1,580 pieces and once completed, it measures over 5″ high, 19″ long, and 7″ wide. Featuring the iconic white, red, and black color scheme, this LEGO set also includes a sticker sheet so you can customize its appearance to closely resemble the real thing. Since it is a LEGO Technic creation, you’ll get a visible and working differential, independent suspension, and a six-cylinder boxer engine with moving pistons. Other accessories include a radar screen, working steering, fire extinguisher system, and as icing on the cake, a track map of the infamous Laguna Seca circuit printed on the driver’s door.

This LEGO set is ideal for die-hard Porsche fanatics who also love putting together complex LEGO sets. We wouldn’t recommend this for beginners, unless you have a lot of patience!

2. Best for classic Porsche lovers: LEGO Icons Porsche 911

If you love classic Porsche design, you’ll love this LEGO Porsche 911 set. This collaboration between the two giant brands actually resulted in more than just the LEGO set you see here. Members of the LEGO VIP loyalty program who purchase this LEGO 911 model also receive an owners club pack that includes LEGO’s recreations of memorable Porsche print ads of the past.

As for the set itself, it consists of 1,458 pieces and once completed, measures over 4″ high, 13.5″ long, and 6″ wide. You also have the choice to build the Turbo model with a turbocharged engine, or the Targa version with a removable roof that can be stored underneath the hood. If you opt to build the Turbo model, you’ll get a wide rear axle, an integrated spoiler, and of course, the turbocharged engine complete with an intercooler. As for the Targa variant, you’ll also get the iconic Targa bar with rear glass behind the driver to go along with the removable roof.

This set isn’t as complex as the Porsche 911 RSR, even though it has a similar number of pieces. It’s still recommended to be an advanced LEGO builder before tackling this set, but it’s good for patient beginners as well.

3. LEGO Technic Formula E Porsche 99X Electric

Are you a Formula E fan? Porsche and LEGO have you covered. This is also a LEGO Technic creation, but one of the more affordable ones, as it’s not as complex and consists of 422 pieces. Designed more for kids, this Formula E Porsche 99X Electric measures over 2″ high, 12″ long, and 4.5″ wide once assembled. What we do love about this set is that it’s an actual pull-back race car toy once built, thanks to a pair of pull-back motors. It also supports augmented reality through the LEGO Technic AR app. With it, you can scan the model and then use the pull-back function to launch the car and see it come to life in augmented reality races.

This set is ideal for kids who want to do more with their creation once it’s completed. Makes for a great gift idea, especially for that young child in your life who has a passion for cars.

4. Great for kids or as a gift: LEGO Speed Champions Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0

This LEGO Speed Champions Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 is actually a retired product, but you can probably find some inventory leftover online. It’s a great gift for younger LEGO and Porsche enthusiasts, featuring 180 pieces and measuring over 1″ high, 5″ long, and 2″ wide once built. It’s a replica of the 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 and the set also includes a minifigure cockpit with removable windshield, wheels complete with rubber tires, and the 911 Turbo’s iconic “whale tail” rear spoiler. LEGO also includes a driver’s helmet and three cones to round off the kit.

5. Discontinued but worth searching for: LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Our final recommendation is arguably the most famous LEGO Technic Porsche set, the 911 GT3 RS sporting the iconic orange bodywork. It was released in 2016 and has since been discontinued, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s such a collectible now. It’s a very complex kit featuring 2,704 pieces and once completed, measures over 6″ high, 22″ long, and 9″ wide. If for some strange reason you haven’t heard of this LEGO set, the exterior features red suspension springs, detailed headlights, taillights, brake calipers, and wheels wrapped with low profile tires. Inside the cabin, you get a detailed dashboard along with a working gearbox, steering wheel with gearshift paddles, racing sets, and a glovebox with a unique serial number. Of course there’s also a detailed flat-six engine with moving pistons along with opening doors, hood, and a storage compartment with a suitcase. It’s a 1:8-scale model that makes for a great showpiece in any home, if you can get your hands on one.

As you can imagine, it’s one of the most complex LEGO Porsche sets ever made, so it’s highly recommended for advanced LEGO builders. But if you’ve got a child in your life that you’re trying to train, it’s a great kit to build together!
