When Porsche announced they were returning to the top level of sports car racing in the LMP1 class of the FIA World Endurance Challenges, the guessing game as to who would be their lead sponsor started. Most, including us, made cases for Red Bull. We were wrong. In the end, everyone was wrong as Porsche announced that machine tool maker DMG MORI would be the exclusive Premier Partner of their LMP1 team.
Most of you probably hadn’t heard of DMG MORI, I know I hadn’t. In fact, even today I don’t know a lot about them. And, unfortunately, this post won’t add much to your knowledge, either. However, what it will do, is give you a short glimpse into their technology at a scale we can all relate to. Watch as one of their machines cuts this incredibly detailed scale model 919 hybrid from a solid block of aluminum.
No word on if you can buy the model, but I would love to see it completed with livery, etc.
