Race into 2023 with this awesome Porsche 917 art timelapse

Our favorite automotive artist, Nicolas Hunziker, paints a new vintage racing-themed piece to celebrate each new year. It’s a fun and interesting automotive way to ring in the new year and show off his talents at the same time. This time he’s chosen to depict a scene of perhaps the most famous and iconic Porsche of all time, the 917K Salzburg which took Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood to victory at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was Porsche’s first overall victory at the Circuit de la Sarthe, and one that I believe set the company on its path toward where it stands today as one of the most iconic sports and racing brands in the world.

It’s always stunning to watch Hunziker start from a big sheet of red and intricately daub his greys and whites and blacks and yellows onto the sheet in full sheet single color arrays. The way his mind’s eye works is incredibly fascinating, determining shape from shadow without so much as a guiding line or pen mark. Perspective and imagery are mapped and placed with perfect accuracy, keeping everything lined up with each new layer of paint. My mind simply can’t comprehend how such a thing is possible. This is acrylic paint on a 24″ x 13.5″ sheet of watercolor paper.

Here we are at the top of 2023 ready to head into the new year. Have you stopped writing 2022 on your paperwork yet? Are your resolutions still holding?

Whatever you’re up to today, take a minute (and 24 seconds) out of your busy schedule to watch this man do the really cool work of putting a very cool Porsche on canvas. Enjoy the video, and here’s wishing you a belated happy new year!
