I LOVE 911 Love. It is, perhaps, the epitome of a Porsche coffee table book. Let’s start with the size. It’s a full square foot in size (that’s 12″ x 12″ for those of you who are mathematically challenged) and nearly 2 inches thick. It weighs close to seven (7) lbs. 911 Love is simply MASSIVE.

What 911 Love Is All About
“This book is the tangible depiction of the 911”. That’s what the book says at least. To me, this book is that and more. It’s a series of love letters to the 911 from famous, infamous and ordinary Porsche owners. There are the usual suspects: Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Zwart, Magnus Walker, etc. And then, there are the not so usual suspects. Take Manfred Huber-Perez Moreno for example. He’s a 46 year old classic car restorer from Germany. Despite the physical limitation of being born with no legs, he’s adapted his own Porsche (a 1970 Porsche 911 T that would look right at home in an R Gruppe meet) so he can drive it via levers vs. pedals. It’s a work of art and his love of Porsche and the 911 can be seen in each picture. That’s what 911 Love is about.
Printed with what must have been copious amounts of ink, 911 Love has it’s own unique smell. Just like the sound of a 911 door closing is distinct, so is 911 Love. Over 350 pages of full color photos and text await you as you explore each 911 and why its owner loves it so.
What 911 Love Isn’t
This isn’t a history of Porsche or of the 911 model. While you may pick up a few pieces of knowledge you didn’t already have via each of the stories, that’s not this book’s purpose. This is a Porsche book to keep and cherish, just like you would your 911. It’s a book to take your time with, picking it up over and over. There are hidden gems to be uncovered if you look. One of my favorite is the 50 Years of Porsche colors on pages 104 and 105.
If you’re looking for a history of the 911 and technical information, don’t buy this book. However, if there are days when you can’t drive your Porsche and you want a quick reminder of what makes it so special (a reminder you can usually only get by sitting in the driver’s seat) then this book is for you.
At nearly $82 911 Love isn’t cheap. But in this instance, you get what you pay for!
