This New Porsche Design Fountain Pen Is Worth Its Weight In Gold, Literally.

If you had $27,000 burning a hole in your pocket, what would you buy? A bargain 996 hoping to catch the bottom of the deprecation curve? Maybe search for a late ’70s or early ’80’s 911 SC? For that money you could get an incredibly low mileage, all original 914 [Really, the market is that crazy right now]. Would you ever consider a gold fountain pen? Porsche Design hopes at least eleven of you will. Yesterday marked the launch of what Porsche Design says is “one of the most exclusive writing tools for pen aficionados: the fountain pen P’3135 Solid Gold Limited Edition.

The P‘3135 Solid Gold Limited Edition

Limited to just elven pieces worldwide, Porsche Design’s newest über-luxury item will be available mid-April at select Porsche Design stores around the world. Milled out of a single piece of solid pure 14-/585 carat gold, the pen has an 18-750/carat gold nib (size M) specially designed for the Solid fountain pen. Just so you don’t forget this is a limited edition Porsche you’re holding in your hand, the Porsche name is discretely engraved on the surface of the nib and a limited edition number is laser etched on the barrel. Each pen comes complete with presentation box and a gold plated tag that carries the number of your pen in the limited series of eleven.

If you think you might be in the market for a solid gold pen from Porsche be prepared to pay for it. The press release we read gave a price of €25,000 or the equivalent of $27,200 / £18,325.
