Have You Scored A Copy of the Porsche Classic Catalog Yet?

Produced in May 2016, this 93-page hardcover catalog is destined to be a desired tabletop addition for any Porschephile. The cover itself sports a handsome embossed sectional drawing of the iconic Type 547/1 engine that powered so many wins beginning in the 1950s.

But that is just the cover, and the catalog contains so much more! This manifesto expands the notion that Porsche has become serious about offering service and parts to all of its customer base, even back to the oldest of the old. With this catalog, Porsche defines “classic” to be any car series from the 356 on up to the 996, and currently stocks over 52,000 parts for owners of classic Porsches, with about 300 new parts being added each year. With over 70% of all Porsches made and sold still in use today, that is a sizable client base!

Porsche Classic’s outreach strategy identifies 37 key dealers around the globe who will serve as Classic Partners, as well as plans for an improved worldwide parts distribution network. This effort began in 2014; no doubt more dealers will be added as the program grows. Other topics covered in the catalog include historic trivia, product fabrication, design improvements of classic parts, and a sample of the parts available. More information can be had online at www.Porsche.com/classic. However, if you want your own copy you’ll need to hurry and visit your local Porsche dealer to grab a copy of this cool first edition before they are all gone!

  • I was at a dealer just this morning and was told that each dealer was giving only one copy, and I could not buy one.

    • Chuck, that's the complete opposite of how it was explained to us. I wonder what's causing the confusion. We're going to send an email to our contact at Porsche Classic and see what they have to say. I'll let you know if we hear back...

  • If Chuck is correct, that is a problem here in Southern Orange County, CA. There are many fine restoration shops in the area, we will need at least 50 copies to satisfy the market. My shop specializes in the 356 car line-up, and we build 20+ motors a year for these cars. Surely you could send us a copy. Actually we need two.

    • Alas, we have no affiliation with Porsche Classic other than the fact that they sponsor our site. With that said, we're trying to see if we can get our hands on a few to maybe give away.

  • After your timely heads-up last week, I buzzed over to my neighborhood Porsche store and politely asked the nice counterman about the chances of obtaining a copy, and how much I would pay, fully expecting that it would have some attached cost. I was told that yes, I could have a copy, and although the dealership had to buy this item from Porsche, it was free to customers. I had hoped to nab a second copy to send to a fellow owner overseas, but got the sense that these were in limited supply so I didn't press the subject.

It is a very interesting publication, containing not just listings of OEM pieces for the 356/911 restorer/maintainer, but several short articles about the origin and application of various bits and pieces. Note that this is the first issue of what will probably be an ongoing series. IMHO, this should be made widely available to the Porsche community, and if we have to pay 10 or 15 bucks apiece to help defray the cost, that's fine with me.
