Just bought yourself a Porsche Macan and finding yourself not a fan of the factory carpet floor mats? You’re not alone. While the standard floor mats for the Macan are better quality than what other automakers have to offer, they’re still carpet floor mats. Nowadays, if you really want to protect your car’s interior, you want some quality, all-weather liners that are made from plastic or rubber material. They offer better protection from all the elements, unlike carpet floor mats that can absorb moisture and become stained over time.

If you’re reading this article, chances are you’re looking to buy floor mats for your Porsche Macan. Below are our recommendations, based on user reviews and personal experience using versions of these products made for other vehicles.

1. Top pick: WeatherTech FloorLiner

WeatherTech has become a household name when it comes to protecting your car’s interior and for good reason. The brand’s popular FloorLiner are all-weather floor mats that have been laser measured for a perfect fit. We’ve used these in our personal vehicles in the past and present, and particularly like how elevated the walls are. That means if you are tracking any sort of liquids into your vehicle, or you accidentally spill something, it’ll remain contained within the floor mat. Other liners we’ve used doesn’t offer as good protection.

WeatherTech’s FloorLiners are made in America in Bolingbrook, Illinois using all American materials. Despite this, pricing for these floor mats remain competitive and you’re getting a very high quality product. They’re constructed using patented high-density tri-extruded (HDTE) material that’s tough and features channels to trap liquid and other debris. When it comes to all-weather protection, these are the mats I recommend to all my friends and family. They’re really easy to clean too, simply just take them out of your car and spray them off with a hose or pressure washer. If they’re particularly dirty, you can run your wash mitt over them, and let them dry naturally or use a drying towel.

These floor mats do have an industrial appearance to them, which doesn’t appeal to everyone. They’re definitely function over form, and may not be the most stylish option out there.

2. Original equipment: Porsche all-weather floor mats

We know there are plenty of car owners who prefer to buy OE products over aftermarket ones. If you’re one of those shoppers, here’s an option for genuine Porsche Macan all-weather floor mats. These are made in Germany by Porsche from rubber material for all-weather protection. They feature the Porsche logo and a silhouette of the Macan, which is a nice subtle touch. There is a raised surrounding border on these mats to help keep liquid and debris trapped, but you can tell it’s not as high as what WeatherTech’s FloorLiners have to offer.

Perhaps most surprising though, is that you can get a set of these OEM floor mats for less than WeatherTech’s FloorLiners, which is usually not the case. The aftermarket is typically more affordable than original parts. When compared to the FloorLiners, the OEM Porsche floor mats won’t offer as good coverage or protection since the FloorLiners do have a higher wall on the sides. In exchange, you’d get genuine Porsche branding and they’d fit perfectly.

3. 3D MAXpider KAGU series floor liners

Another great option comes from 3D MAXpider, and while the brand name is probably a bit strange, it has a solid reputation among customers for its high quality floor liners. The company’s Macan offering is part of its Kagu Series of floor liners, constructed from a thermoplastic rubber that is backed by lightweight XPE foam. And if you’re one to be concerned with smells, 3D MAXpider claims these are 100% odorless due to their SGS-certified material that is also non-toxic. While we can’t confirm that since we’ve never tested these floor mats ourselves, users reviews seem to back up that claim. And we looked across various different applications, not just the Macan mats.

Buyers say these mats fit very well and offer great coverage and protection with their high-walled lip. The Kagu finish looks less industrial than what you’d find on other all-weather floor liners, if you want a look that’s more subtle. The texture makes it almost look a bit like carpet than hard plastic.

Why are floor liners often considered better than carpet floor mats?

For a long time, carpet floor mats were the most popular type of floor mat for cars. But in the last two decades or so, floor liners grew in popularity thanks to advancements in manufacturing. Instead of cheap, clear plastic-type of floor mats, floor liners these days are accurately measured using laser technology and look as if they came straight from the factory. In fact, some automakers do offer all-weather floor liners as an OEM option — like Porsche. For most vehicle owners, floor liners are now preferred because of their all-weather protection and how easy they are to clean and maintain.

Why do I need floor mats?

The biggest reason to install floor mats is to protect your vehicle’s carpet. Each time you drive your car, you’re tracking in dirt, grime, and all sorts of debris with your shoes. Without floor mats, that stuff gets stuck to your car’s carpet and it can be really difficult to clean. All floor mats are removable, which makes it a lot easier to vacuum or wash when necessary.

Ultimately, floor mats help you retain the resale value of your vehicle. You can get the floor mats as dirty as you want, because when it comes time to selling your car, you can just replace them or remove them altogether.

Another minor reasons to get floor mats is for comfort, as some floor mats do provide added cushioning or padding. And then there’s style — some floor mats are actually flashy and add to the appearance of your interior. You can also get some mats in a contrasting color to the rest of your interior, if that’s the look you’re going for.

What are universal floor mats or floor liners?

There are some brands that offer all-weather floor mats that typically say “universal trim to fit.” That means they have a pretty standard size, and you’ll have to carefully trim them to contour to your interior. The biggest benefit to these types of mats is that they’re much more affordable, but they won’t offer a perfect fit, no matter how exact you are with cutting.

Personally, I would only purchase these types of liners or floor mats if no one offered a vehicle-specific application for my car. These tend to take a lot of work to get them to fit, and even then, they won’t look that great. I would only recommend these if you’re on a real tight budget, or you don’t really care how they look inside your car so long as they protect the carpet. For that, they’ll most certainly do the job, just not the best job possible.

How do I clean floor liners?

Cleaning floor liners made from plastic or rubber material is very straightforward and much easier than carpet floor mats. With floor liners, you more than likely do not need a vacuum cleaner. Simply remove the floor liners from your vehicle and shake out any loose dirt or debris. If you’re using a pressure washer to wash your car, you can use that to spray off your liners. Otherwise, rinse it off with water and then use soap if needed. Once you’re all done, dry the liners with either a clean towel or let them air dry. It’s best to avoid any direct heat sources, as this could cause the material to deform or warp.

  • Cripes, all that verbiage and the OEM mats are best unless one drags massive crud/water into your Macan.
A worthless article, unless WeatherTec is an advertiser.
You didn’t even test all the options
    Worthless.
