This has to be the coolest Porsche related item yet. Take a look at the picture on the left, any idea what it is? Give up? It’s a PC. That’s right, it’s a computer! No, it’s not another industrial design win from the Porsche Design Group. It’s a machine created by a member of the TBCS Community Forum who goes by the username of “bschott.”

According to his original post, the design was inspired by the movie Gone in 60 Seconds.

“My third mod was based on Tanya, the 1997 911 Twin Turbo Porsche from the movie. It has a 3-4 second scene in the movie, but I’ve always loved the 911 so…”

Look at the following pictures.
This guy created this based on a three (3) second scene in a movie? Just goes to prove that there really “is no substitute” (given the work involved I don’t have the heart to tell him his case is that of a 996, not the 993 that was his inspiration).

I found another Porsche nut

I’m really glad I found this post. I mean I am an admitted Porsche fanatic. Not only do I own a Porsche car or two, I’m a fan of everything else Porsche or Porsche designed (from Kitchens to Hard-Drives.) However, this takes things to a whole new level.

Starting with a $60, 1/6th scale, RC car this guy proceeded to build, from scratch, a PC in the shape of a 911 complete with an CD/MP3/DVD/AM/FM radio (that’s the glowing yellow LCD you see in the windshield.) Not only that, but he even went so far as to mount the twin cooling fans (twin turbo anyone?) under the hood. Even more amazing (and true to the mechanics that go with actual body style) the power supply that runs this unit is water cooled, that’s right, water cooled.

I always knew there were others like me; they just aren’t always easy to spot. My hat is off to the creative genius behind the development of something like this. I wonder if there is some type of 12 step program we could enroll in?
