The Porsche Type 997, or simply 997, is the project code name for the sixth generation of the Porsche 911s. Production began in 2004 and was introduced as model year 2005. Two variants, the Porsche Carrera and Carrera S coupés, were available immediately. The all-wheel drive Porsche Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S versions began shipping in November 2005, while the Turbo and GT3 derivatives went on sale in late 2006, and the 997 GT2 in 2007. The Porsche Targa top models are available in Targa 4 and Targa 4S forms.
