This past weekend the Rolex GT field ran a total of eight sessions, seven during the day and one under the lights. When the dust settled, Porsche held six of top ten fastest lap times including the fastest by factory driver Patrick Long.
“What do you get for winning practice? Some bragging rights, and some momentum for a new team in the championship. But we feel confident. People were saying, ‘What’s Park Place?’ Hopefully, this will bump them up on the Google search for sports car fans. They caught my eye last year – that’s why I came knocking. They’re a group of young, hungry, motivated guys,” said Long of the team based at new racing division of Park Place Porsche, an authorized Porsche dealership in Dallas.
Nick Tandy, Porsche’s newest factory driver, held the second fastest time in the Konrad Motorsport/Orbit Vision Air of Panama Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. In third was Andy Lally driving the Flex-Box Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – the car that won the GT class at last year’s Rolex 24.
Of the 60-plus teams entered in the race, Porsche customers fill 18 of those entry slots with Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race cars. The race itself, scheduled for January 26 – 27 at Daytona International Speedway, will be broadcast in its entirety on a combination of SPEED-TV and www.speedtv.com.
