Video: Porsche Motorsport At Daytona

In the inaugural running of the newly formed United SportsCar Championship the works team Porsche North America experienced a true baptism by fire, pitting themselves against the best GTLM/GTE teams in the world. A full field of factory supported competition arrived in Daytona to fight for the victory, but in the end, it was the #911 991 RSR that took Porsche to a second 24 hour victory on the back of their win at Le Mans last June.

Daytona kicks off the motorsport season, and this was a big win for the Porsche team. Starting a new chapter of the company’s motorsport history, the #911 RSR at the hands of Patrick Pilet, Richard Lietz, and Nick Tandy performed flawlessly. Though the #912 car did suffer a retirement, it too ran toward the front of the race for the majority of the 24 hours. Both cars were ruthlessly hounded by top level competition from Chevrolet, SRT, BMW, and Ferrari. With both Corvettes suffering major issues, and the Vipers following suit, Porsche’s longstanding tradition of longevity prevailed and helped them to win the class victory, and take home the trophy.

As the video explains, they aren’t ever resting on their laurels, and the Porsche North America team are already looking forward to the next big race, the 12 hours of Sebring in March.
