This Video Shows The Fine Line Between Control And What Could Be Certain Death On Pikes Peak

I’m afraid of heights, terrified even. I don’t like standing on the first step of a ladder so you can forget about racing up mountains in a Porsche. In fact, I remember being the passenger in a 991 driving to the top of the Mt. Washington auto road (the tallest peak in New England) a few years back and wondering how in the hell Jeff Zwart ever gets behind the wheel of his Porsche to race to the top of Pikes Peak. It’s just not natural. Then, last week I saw the video produced by /DRIVE that shows Jeff’s race from his point of view. That’s not too bad, I thought. I was wrong. Dead wrong. The video below was directed and edited by Will Roegge and shows Jeff’s climb from multiple angles. One of those angles (at about 2:25 in and again around 2:41) shows just how fine the line is between command of the car and Jeff’s certain death. Zwart’s talent, car control and courage are beyond my ability to describe. Thankfully, Will’s video below does the job I can’t. Watch and enjoy and keep your eyes peeled at 2:25 ad 2:41!

  • A ride up Pike's Peak with Jeff Zwart always leave me speechless so I head for my garage to take a peek at my 911 and have a "what if?" moment... :-)
