A 10 Step Pre-Purchase Inspection for your Next Used Porsche

We’ve talked about the importance of a pre-purchase inspection for your Porsche many times in the past and think that the checklist offered in this Porsche Buyer’s Guide is one of the most thorough we’ve seen in a while. However, the video below from our friend Larry over at AMMOnyc does a great job of illustrating what’s involved in a PPI on Porsche and why it’s so important.

  • I can't emphasize enough the importance of this video, by all means have a used Porsche checked out by an expert. My first Porsche was a 06 Carrera, I got too emotionally attached to it, bought it, then found the problems and history. There were so many red flags...the owner was seethy, he smoked in the car, paint imperfections, the car was warmed up when I test drove it...etc. A lesson learned the hard way. On the bright side, I feel like I could now pick a good solid used 997 based on my mistakes. I traded this car in for a new 2010 Carrera and am very pleased.

One more thing, the 06 Carrera's transmission synchros would grind when the car was cold only, so even an expert inspection would not have found this problem unless the car was driven before it had warmed up. Buyer beware.
