The prestigious New York Auto Show is currently in progress. This morning as part of the show in New York, Porsche’s GT3 was presented the award of “2014 World Performance Car”.
In recent years, the World Car Awards have been gaining momentum, and are now seen as equal or superior to either the North American and European car of the year awards. The WCAs are presented each year, divided into four categories: Car Design, Green Car, Performance Car, and Car of the Year. Winners are determined by an international panel consisting of sixty-nine members of the automotive media hailing from 22 countries.

Since the inception of the World Car of the Year Awards, Porsche has won World Performance Car three separate times; For the Cayman in 2006, for the 911 in 2012, and for the 981 chassis Boxster and Cayman just last year. The fifth-generation 911 GT3 is the latest top performing naturally aspirated 911 from Porsche, and completely deserving of the award. Regardless of the recent worldwide recall for the 991 GT3 models, the car has received nothing buy praise from a number of international motoring authorities. The car is widely regarded as among the best driving cars in the world, and this award only helps to cement the 991 GT3 as one of the best Porsches of our time.
Facing stiff competition from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, and even other Porsche models, the GT3 bested the lot of them and walked away with the laurels. You can be sure that this award will be displayed in Porsche’s trophy case with pride.
