Jacky Ickx Receives a Special Commemoration From Porsche

Few drivers have transcended to the level of living legend quite like Jacky Ickx. Over the course of a four-decade career, the Belgian made a mark in nearly every major category.

Though Ickx won Le Mans with Ford in 1969 and spent several years driving F1 with Ferrari, perhaps his sportscar success with Porsche throughout the seventies and eighties was his career peak. Four victories with Porsche at the 24 Hours of Le Mans firmly established him in the pantheon of motorsport’s greats.

Doused in “X” blue, Ickx’s commemoration is the first Paint to Sample 992.

Inspired by Belgian Porsche importer D’ieteren, Porsche began conceptualizing a commemorative edition of the 992 for Ickx. With Style Porsche lending a hand in the design process, they began sculpting one of the most striking Carreras ever for their celebrated driver’s 75th birthday.

Ickx’s dark blue and white helmet has been burned indelibly into the minds of racing fans, and the car uses those same colors to trigger an emotional response. A bespoke “X” blue was chosen to cover the body and the Carrera Classic wheels, making Icxk’s cars the first Paint to Sample 992. A badge of the Belgian flag and the great man’s signature adorn the driver’s side B-pillar, and white accents can be seen throughout the understated interior.

White accents throughout the cabin are a nod to the white paint which surrounds the visor port on Icxk’s helmet.

The cabin’s touches are both subtle and distinguished. Nearly every inch of the cabin—even the seat backs—-is trimmed in black leather. Pebble Grey cross stitching adorns the dashboard, door panel and rear trim. The punctilious observer will notice the stitching’s distinct “X” pattern—a reference to the Belgian’s last name. Pebble Grey piping and “911” lettering on the headrests of the 18-way Sports seats give them a little more distinction.

The great man’s signature can be found on the center console and the key fob.

Like Ickx’s driving, this car is understated. Sleek, stylish, effortlessly cool, and undeniably special, the Belgian Legend Edition 992 begins at $120,600. Unfortunately for many, the model is strictly limited to just 75 units—one for each year since Ickx’s birth—and will only be available in Belgium.
