Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 47

We’ve been compiling the best Porsche models on eBay for about a year and a half now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. There is some great new stuff every two weeks, so check back often. We’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for you nice people to purchase today, including a Sportomatic Survivor, an original-paint barn-find, a ducktail Rauh Welt SEMA car, an absurdly low-mileage GT3 RS, and a gorgeous-looking bog-standard 997 Carrera. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1973 Porsche 911T Sportomatic Coupe For Sale

If you’ve been reading our columns for any length of time, you’ll know that we value a manual-transmission car above almost anything (though we will admit to the speed made possible with a glorious PDK transmission), but the rarity and strange shifting involved with a nicely maintained Sportomatic is the stuff of legends. There were only a few thousand cars built with this oddball manual-with-a-torque-converter transaxle, and this one is possibly one of the nicest we’ve ever seen. According to the seller, the car was owned by the same person for more than 30 years, and it has never seen a lick of rust. If true, this could be a great piece for driving, showing, or adding to your collection.

2. 1970 Porsche 911T Barn-Find Coupe For Sale

This is another great example of an early 911 that deserves a second glance. There is something to be said for an original paint barn-find survivor, even if it’s been sitting for decades and doesn’t really run right now. This car could be a great driver-grade clean up for minimal cash outlay. You could pick this car up and go through the fuel system, the braking system, and rebuild the carburetors and you’d have an exciting driving experience. There is a movement these days for something that keeps a bit of that patina around, and this could be your ‘one’. Or you could just restore it like everyone else.

3. 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Rauh-Welt Begriff Backdate For Sale

SEMA cars are hardly known for their build quality, as they are usually thrown together in a last-minute thrash to get the car ready for the big show. This Porsche, however, appears to be the real-deal build from a man known for his inch-perfect quality, Nakai-San. This RWB backdate 911 is a gorgeous shade of yellow, and sits on a 1987 chassis with 3.2 liter power, so you know it has some big-displacement grunt to back up the show-car beauty.

4. Delivery Mileage 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS For Sale

This GT3 RS has only 10 miles on the odometer, and remains in as-delivered condition. I’d be hard pressed not to rip all of that protection off and go do donuts in the back lot for a while. This car is, to me, like a caged animal just begging to go for a run. Someone needs to buy this car and take it for a gallop across the open plains. Rip and roar around in the canyons or go for a sprint up a mountain pass somewhere, but please, whatever you do, don’t leave it like this.

5. 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe For Sale

We live in a world where a ‘normal’ 911 just isn’t all that exciting anymore, until you take the time to drive one. It’s at that point that you remember just how special the 911 is. You don’t need a ton of power or a wing or a couple turbos to go have fun on a back road. What was a great car then is still a great car today, but now you can have it for half what it cost new. This regular Carrera 2 is an enticing bargain at this price, and would still drive great. The 997 generation 911 was the perfect size, and had an interior you could be proud of. If you’re looking for a budget alternative to a new 911, this car offers DFI and PDK Carrera performance for base Boxster money. Give it a second look.

    • You've just found their appeal. If you don't understand the concept of "cars as art", then you likely don't understand Rauh-Welt Porsches. Personally I think they are great, but I wouldn't want to own one.
