We’ve been compiling the best Porsche models on eBay for about a year and a half now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. For the past 18-months we’ve published these every other week. Well, enough of you have spoken up that we’re going to try a weekly format, with two of us picking selections, so check back often. We’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for you nice people to purchase today, including a low mileage 944 coupe, an affordable summer toy, a product of depreciation, a 911 Safari donor candidate, and a 356 Speedster someone of “regular” means could afford . Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.
1. 1984 Porsche 944 For Sale
A rising tide lifts all boats and the 944 is no stranger to this old axiom. And while prices are rising for good examples of the cabriolets and turbos, the coupes haven’t quite kept pace. That’s partly due to the fact that Porsche built so many of them and partly due to the fact that they’ve been maligned for so many years. Finding a good solid example can take a lot of patience. The 944 for sale here looks to have all the makings of a nice driver (with more than 160,000 944s produced in total over their production, and more than 26,000 in 1984, only the cleanest of the clean and rarest of the rare are true collector cars). Assuming the mileage is accurate (we have no reason to think it’s not) and it’s in as good of condition as it appears, this 944 could be an affordable entry into the Porsche hobby, or make a fun weekend autocross or track toy. The 944 for sale here is said to be a “lightweight” version due to some factory options (cloth vs. leather, no lacquer paint, sunroof delete) but other than the sunroof, not sure how much of a difference the others will make given a stock 944 weighed in at 2830 lbs and only produced 143 HP. So, while it may not be a speed demon given the power to weight ratio, it’s still an agile and fun driver. Get a PPI, fix the cracks on the dash, check the dates on the tires and you should be good to go.

2. 2002 Porsche Boxster
We’ve been on the hunt for a new toy lately. Originally, we had our heart set on a 914. However, after a lot of soul searching what we really want is a low-cost, easy to maintain, cabriolet we could keep at our beach house and not feel too guilty about leaving it outside exposed to the elements. A 986 Boxster seems like the perfect fit. Up for sale here is one we would consider if it were optioned just slightly different. However, it could be perfect for you. We love the color combination with the Seal Grey exterior and blue top; the low mileage is a nice benefit. Assuming it has some service history, and or a PPI checks out well, this would make a great summer cruiser for just about anyone.

3. 2011 Porsche Panamera 4 for sale
Let depreciation be your friend! As optioned, this Panamera 4 most likely had an MSRP closer to $90k than $80k. Fast forward 5-years and this Panamera 4 has traveled just a little more than 38,000 miles and the seller has it listed at $46,495 or best offer (we’re thinking low 40s should be about right). I like the all black look and the utility of all-wheel drive would come in nice if this were to become your daily driver. If you live here in the Northeast, just equip it with some snow tires, turn on those heated seats and the you’ll have a year-round luxury liner at what could be a bargain basement price. I know the Panamera isn’t for everyone, but if you’re shopping a Mercedes, BMW or Audi sedan you owe it to yourself to check out the Panamera.

4. 1984 Porsche 911 for sale
I’ve been shopping the 911 SC range for the past month or so because I’m enthralled with the idea of buying a good driver and sending it to Leh Keen to turn it into sand spinning, dune busting, river crossing Safari 911. The Porsche for sale here seems like it might be a hell of a candidate depending on where the reserve is set and the final price ends up. Said to have a “ballsy Dave White built” race engine coupled to a 915 gearbox the seller claims it is the fastest 3.2 he’s ever driven. No word on what was done to the brakes to stop those extra horses so you’ll want to check on that, but this could be the right donor car to make your own Safari rig or, if the engine is as good as claimed, as nice track day beast you can drive on the street.

5. 1958 Porsche 356 1600 Super Replica
Don’t shoot me for listing a replica, instead hear me out. I would love a nice 356, especially something as nice as 1600 Super. However, the cold hard truth is that I can’t afford one anytime soon. So, the only way I’m ever going to realize this dream is via a kit car or Replica. As Intermeccanica builds some of the better cars we’ve seen, we thought we would share it with you. I don’t have enough info to know where pricing should end up on a car like this, but I know it should be way south of what the real thing would cost. Do yourself a favor and look through the listing and build history. It would take a very experienced eye to tell this apart from the real thing from more than a few feet away.

Re: the 356 replica. Intermeccanica makes the BEST one out there, not just one of the better ones. They are a dream to drive and the build quality is nonpariel.
As an owner your opinion might be a bit biased, Doctor. However, we tend to agree with you. :-)
About the 1984 944, I never bid on one unless the owner provides a clear and free Carfax. These cars have only a 5 digit speedo and most of them are broken as well some time during their life. Most of them are not advertised with the correct mileage and few owners have ever admitted it when questioned. So if you want be sure, check the Carfax and inspect it personally. (same goes for all 924's) .
About the Boxter, I would not bid on one unless it has had its IMS replaced and that can be verified, these engines are very expensive to fix once the bearing goes and give no prior warning.
About the 356C kit car for $ 40K USD, I don't see the value no matter how good the Kit is, it is not a real Porsche.
Good advice regarding the 944.
As for the IMS on the Boxster. That issue is so crazy overblown. Most likely if it hasn't broken at this point, it won't. With that said, I would replace it anyway when doing the clutch as better safe than sorry.
M96 engines aren't "expensive" to fix once the bearing goes out, it's usually impossible. Most of the time when the bearing seizes at high speed, you'll end up with an unintentionally ventilated crank case.
But yes, the issue is far overblown. I've heard anywhere from 1-5% of cars have had failures. And if you do change the bearing when the car is due for a clutch, it'll probably last longer than your lifetime.
$40k and reserve not met for a replicar!! For that kind of money there are plenty of desirable genuine Porsches on the market.
You can't touch a Speedster/Roadster/Convertible D for anything less than three times that.
Also, as mentioned above, it is a very well made replica. Intermeccanica uses quality materials, often the same ones that a restoration shop would use. Excellent cars that provide a great driving experience. Go drive one and then tell me it isn't worth 50K.
