Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 53

We’ve been compiling the best Porsche models on eBay for almost two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. In all that time, we’ve published these every other week. Well, enough of you have spoken up that we’re going to try a weekly format, with two of us picking selections, so check back often. We’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for you nice people to purchase today, including a rare GT2 RS, a rare 996 GT2, a rare 928 GTS, a rare 1973 2.7 Carrera RS, and another Cayman race car. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS Touring For Sale

When we started doing this column, I didn’t think we would ever see a 2.7 RS on eBay, being the collector cars that they are. Then again, there are a dozen $1,000,000+ 918 Spyders on eBay right now, so I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised by anything anymore. While these cars are usually reserved for collector car auctions of the RM Sotheby’s or Gooding variety, this particular seller decided to list this Carrera RS on eBay. For whatever reason, here it is, in all of its freshly-restored glory.

This 2.7 Liter RennSport model is said to be chassis #9113600595, making this a series II car, though an engine number is not listed -a major no-no in 2.7 RS culture [There is a COA shown in the pictures, so presumably it’s the original engine, but be sure to do your own due diligence]. The add includes a full history/provenance of the Porsche’s ownership.

2. Low Miles 2011 Porsche 911 (997) GT2 RS For Sale

If you’ve been looking for a 620 horsepower, rear-wheel driven, turbocharged, black beauty to drive around, then this is the car you need. With a rearward weight bias and very little in the way of electronic intrusion, the 997 GT2 RS is a rare beast that will fight you for control, and you’ll enjoy every minute of it. There is a rumor passing through the Porsche community that a 991 version of the storied GT2 might be coming soon, but will any new car ever be as hardcore as this last-generation murder machine? And does anything look quite as good as a black-on-carbon wide-body 997 with a high-downforce rear wing? With only a couple thousand miles on the odometer, it’s unlikely that you’ll find another one that is quite this showroom fresh, and that’s all the more reason to take this one out and flog it within an inch of its (or your) life. This dichotomy of beauty and murderous intent is about as intriguing as they come. I’ll take two, please.

3. 2003 Porsche 911 (996) GT2 For Sale

Speaking of gorgeous Porsches that are already plotting your murder, this 996 version of the rear-wheel-drive turbocharged monster GT2 can be found for a fraction of the 997 edition, though still not inexpensively. I don’t think there is such a thing as a bargain in the GT2 world right now, but if you have the means, that shouldn’t stop you from taking this awesome piece of history out for a long run on your favorite twisty road, just to see if you’ve still got it in you. Make sure you stock up on energy drinks, as you’ll need them in order to keep on top of the steering wheel manipulation you’ll need to handle. Sawing and correcting at the wheel of this pure drivers machine might be the most exciting thing you ever do in your life. Guards red with red safety belts and only 18,000 miles, this GT2 needs to belong to you.

4. 1995 Porsche 928 GTS For Sale

5.4 liter V8s are generally reserved for American muscle, but when Germany does it, they toss in four camshafts to make things really spicy. This last-year-of-production 928 is really the best of the breed (especially with the manual transmission option) and deserves your attention, if it hadn’t already earned it. This car not only sounds good, but after several years of looking slightly wonky in earlier years, the 928 GTS finally looked good, too. The smoother late-bumpers work really well with the GTS wing and front airdam. This particular car has almost 100,000 miles on the odometer, but it appears to have been taken care of quite well with great paint, and a gorgeous interior. That blue and chalk two-tone interior is just plain gorgeous, and I wouldn’t mind being stuck in that driver’s seat for a couple thousand miles. Anyone up for a road trip?

5. 2012 Porsche Cayman S Race Car For Sale

It’s a race car, so you know it hasn’t exactly been treated well for all these years. That said, this car appears to be well built and remains competitive in the right hands. Whether you’re looking for a PCA racer or a track day special, this Cayman might be exactly what you need.

  • That 928 has been up for a while. If it comes down into the high $30k range it'll sell for sure, it's just too high at the $50k mark. I REALLY like it. The color combination and options are about as good as it gets with 928s.
