LEGO Fans Create The Coolest Porsche Films Ever In The Porsche Dream Race Contest

A few months ago, LEGO and Porsche announced a contest for builders and filmmakers to upload a video for a chance to win VIP tickets to the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours. There were hundreds of entrants, but only one can actually win. In this short clip from the LEGO YouTube channel, they’ve shown us the finalists in the contest, as well as the winning entry. Some entries showed off wild and crazy builds that combined race cars, pirate ships, and history.

Below are recaps of each of the videos. Watch the video above to see them all for yourself.

Second Runner Up: This video is set in the distant future. A daughter visits her retired race champion father. She has a big race against some fantastical space ship competition. The father tosses her the keys to his Porsche 918 Spyder, and she enters it in the race. Through cunning and overwhelming Porsche speed, she overpowers the competition, and takes the win. Her father is clearly proud of the achievement.

First Runner Up: In this fantasy race, A LEGO master builder is watching the 24 Hours of Le Mans from the grandstands. There is a pirate in a rowboat competing against modern racing cars, including a 919 Hybrid LMP1. The Pirate blows away the competition by firing his cannon as some sort of jet propulsion engine, and by doing so rockets to the front of the field. As he passes for the lead, he throws a sword out to puncture tires, causing a massive wreck. The master builder in the stands is struck by inspiration, and jumps onto the track to rebuild the cars, but he builds the three crashed cars into one mega-racer, and climbs aboard. A Porsche driver tosses the builder a helmet, and he goes on to pass the cheating pirate just before the finish line.

Winner: In preparation for a night stint during the 2016 running of the 24 hours of Le Mans, one of the Porsche drivers is catching a few hours of sleep before he hops in the car. He’s dreaming a very vivid scenario of the ’24 Lightyears of the Universe’ in which his already futuristic 919 Hybrid LMP1 transforms into a space racer and shoots off ahead of the other space ship competition. The driver is then woken up to start his time in the car, and the camera pulls back to show the car is placed P1, and he’s on his way to scoring Porsche’s 18th overall Le Mans victory.

I must say, I have to agree with the order of placement, and the winner certainly deserved to have won. All three were shot in gorgeous detail, and edited together perfectly, but there was an extra level of attention to detail in the overall victor’s video that makes it the easy pick.

There were several other video makers who had clips of their semi-final videos included in the introduction to the clip, so you should take the 6-minutes to watch the entire LEGO contest wrap up. The victor of the contest, Nikvul, will be at Le Mans this year, hopefully to see his dream of a Porsche victory come true. Will you be there? We will!
