Our Favorite Porsches on eBay This Week: Volume 56

We’ve been compiling the best Porsche models on eBay for almost two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. In all that time, we’ve published these every other week. Well, enough of you have spoken up that we’re going to try a weekly format, with two of us picking selections, so check back often. This week, we’re a bit all over the map. We have a tastefully modified 911, a well preserved SC that could make a great donor for your own Safari build, two (2) dirt cheap 911 Cabriolets that could be a lot of fun or could cause a ton of financial heartache and lastly, a rare black beauty in the form of a limited edition 924. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1987 Porsche 911 For Sale

Personally, I like my Porsches stock. I don’t have anything against “outlaws” or modified R Gruppe style 911s, it’s just that I like things the way Porsche intended them to be. With that said, I understand the desire to put your personal touch on a car or to make it stand out from a crowd. That’s why I like the ’87 911 in this listing. What few mods it has seem to be tastefully done and I especially like the paint matched white wheels. I’m not sure about the price given the mileage, but I sure do like the way it looks.

2. 1980 Porsche 911 SC For Sale

One of our readers recently contacted us to let us know that after reading our story on Leh Keen’s Safari builds, they’ve decided to have him build one for them. To say we’re jealous is an understatement. We can also say we’re looking for our own possible donor car and a well sorted SC seems to be the way to go. There are plenty to choose from on eBay, this one stood out to us due to the excellent “strobe striping” effect and the fact that it’s only a 2-owner car.

3. 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet For Sale

I just love Lapis Blue. In fact, the 2002 Boxster we just bought is Lapis Blue. That’s what caught my eye about this 911. For a bit more than twice what we paid for our Boxster (we didn’t pay a lot) you could have this 2003 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. At just about 64k miles this 911 is less likely to have an IMS issue (although not immune to the possibility) than a lower mileage version. More importantly, with all-wheel drive you could drive this car year round, even in the north east, should you so choose. Yes, it’s a Tiptronic, but unless you’ve driven one and understand how well they perform, I wouldn’t avoid this as a possible buy. In fact, use the Tiptronic transmission as a negotiating point as it will definitely hurt future resale (people love to row their own gears). But, if you’re buying it for a weekend or summer toy, I wouldn’t let it hold you back.

4. 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

Be sure to pay close attention to this listing. Yes, it’s a 2002. Yes, it’s listed as having 135,000 miles. However, as you read through you’ll note the engine under went a complete rebuild in 2013 and then a 2nd complete rebuild, by Porsche, less than 3,000 miles ago. That’s right. The engine in this 911 has just over 3,000 miles on it. Couple that with what appears to be a comprehensive service history and an honest seller and this NO RESERVE 911 could turn out to be the steal of the century. Bidding is currently just over $10,000 and we’ll be watching this closely to see what happens.

5. 1988 Porsche 924 Le Mans SE “Club Sport”

Now here’s an interesting 924. Porsche only made 980 of these “Club Sport” editions worldwide. 500 of them made it here to the U.S. where they were known as the SE model (Le Mans model in the ROW). Interestingly, like a number of today’s lightweight Porsche models, the SE came without radio, AC, sunroof, cruise control, power steering, or passenger side mirror to save weight. Of course, you could add any, or all, of these back and this example seems to have done just that with a number of the heavier options (thus taking away from the weight savings). Regardless, it appears to be in excellent condition, including the original interior. Can’t wait to see if this 924 sells.
