Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 18

For all of the eccentric and eclectic Porsche collectors and enthusiasts out there, we’ve decided that it is about time someone aggregated the best of the best that eBay has to offer in the Porsches-for-sale department. Now we’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for folks to purchase. The list includes a 993 Carrera 2S Andial 3.8 liter, possibly the world’s nicest 944, a gorgeous Green early 912, a Porsche powered sand rail, and we revisit a couple insanely priced Porsche markets with some eBay examples. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1998 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 2S Andial 3.8 Liter For Sale

With one of the nicest starting points in the history of automotive performance builds, this car started life as a very rare and very beautiful Aerokit 993 C2S in Glacier White over Cashmere interior with ‘hardback’ sport seats. This is already a rare combination of options. The original owner of the car apparently wasn’t happy with what was already an amazing car, so he dropped the thing off to ANDIAL in southern California for a complete overhaul. There the car was fitted with a whole lot of 993 Turbo S bits, including a full set of yellow calipers and floating brake rotors, and “ROW” M030 sport suspension. The transmission was cracked and a Quaife limited slip differential was added, as well as revised gearing to compensate for the additional power. Said additional power was given in the form of a 3.8 liter conversion using 993 RS 3.8 components sourced directly from Porsche motorsport. The 3.8 liter engine should produce just above 300 horsepower, and would make for an excellent engine in a two-wheel drive 993. The price is a bit on the high side, but where else are you going to find one?

Low Mile Red 1983 Porsche 944 For Sale

My first Porsche was a 1983 944, though mine was in a much more mundane color; Zermatt Silver Metallic. It’s hard to argue with this one in Red, though, especially with that gorgeous set of gold BBS wheels. This is a very low mileage example, but it appears to have been modified tastefully. The only thing I object to is the aftermarket “Porsche” rear reflector, as I prefer the original looks of the car with the license plate between the tail lights. Aside from that minor qualm, the rest of the car looks immaculate. The interior looks absolutely flawless, and I must admit I am extremely jealous of the cloth interior. While $20,000 is a lot more than I paid for mine, this one appears to be worth somewhere close to that, considering its condition. I would argue that the first-year 944 is the purest driving experience you can get from Porsche, as this was the only year the car was delivered with a manual steering rack. It’s truly sublime.

Gorgeous-in-green 1966 Porsche 912 For Sale

There’s just something about the visage of a short-wheelbase early 900 series car fitted with painted KPZ steel wheels. It’s even better when the car is painted such a beautiful color, and the body panels are all as unblemished as the day the car left the factory. As 912s go, this one sure looks like a beautiful buy, and the bidding hasn’t gone out of control on it. If you’re looking for a 912, you might want to look into this one further, as it appears to be a good one at a good price.

4. 1980 Chenoweth Sand Rail With 1968 911S 2.0 Liter Flat Six Engine For Sale

I’m hardly a Porsche purist, so it should come as no surprise that I’m absolutely enamored with this thing. I really dig sand rails, and enjoy a good bit of off-road driving every now and again. This rig looks like an absolute riot. While normally a lightweight piece like this is more than sufficiently driven by an old 40 horsepower Volkswagen flat-four, this one has been endowed with an early 911S 2 liter flat six. The S engine is a peach, as the camshafts give more power, better revs, better response, and an aurally stimulating rawp. At this price, you’re essentially buying an early 911S engine and the guy is throwing in a sand rail chassis, transmission, wheels, etc. for free. This looks like a whole lot of vintage driving fun for the 25 grand buy in.

5. Crazy Price 1997 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo For Sale

When stuff like this comes up for sale, I can’t help buy say “I told ya so”. Last fall we said that 993 Turbo prices were on the rise in a big way. We predicted they’d eclipse the quarter million dollar mark by spring, which they did, and then some. And it’s not even spring yet. This particular 993 Turbo is offered at a mind boggling $389,000, and it’s not the first one we’ve seen in that price range. We’ve even heard rumors of cars selling even higher than that, like a lot higher. Then again, this 993 Turbo has only 1000 miles on the odometer, so it’s doubtful you’ll find one in this kind of condition ever again. These just continue to go up in value, so perhaps one day we’ll look back on this post and think “wow, they used to be ONLY $400 grand?”

Honorable Mention – What is happening with “used” 918 Spyder prices?

For months now when you search for “Porsche” on eBay motors and sort from most expensive to least, the top contenders have been Carrera GTs and the occasional 993 Turbo or Turbo S. But this week when I went to make this post, the top four cars were 918 Spyders priced right around $1.5 million dollars. Wait, didn’t the 918 Spyder MSRP at $845 thousand dollars? Indeed it did.

While it is true that you cannot buy a new 918 Spyder any longer, as they’ve completely sold out, that doesn’t warrant a half-million dollar markup, does it? I do expect most of the cars here probably had quite a few options on them, and left the dealers at least over $900,000, it seems a bit odd to me that some of the buyers would already be selling their Porsche hypercars and at an amazing 150% of what they paid for them.
