Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 22

For all of the eccentric and eclectic Porsche collectors and enthusiasts out there, we’ve decided that it is about time someone aggregated the best of the best that eBay has to offer in the Porsches-for-sale department. Now we’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for folks to purchase. The list this week includes three generations of 911 racing cars, and a pair of unloved ‘S’ models that deserve some more attention! Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1976 Porsche 934/935 Factory Racing Car ‘El Salvador’ For Sale

We’ve run in to El Salvador before. This car has come up at a couple of collector auctions in the last handful of years (RM Auctions Monterey 2013, Mecum Auctions Monterey 2014, and Hollywood Wheels Auctions Amelia Island 2015 at a minimum), and it has failed to sell at each of them. I’m not sure why nobody wants to buy such a gorgeous racing car, but so it goes. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a real-deal 935 on eBay, and the move to list it there smacks of desperation. Up to the time of this writing, the car has received 59 bids, but has not yet cleared the reserve.

With Rennsport Reunion coming up so quickly, it might be a good idea to grab this car and get in on the action. You can read more about the car and its history in our previous auction coverage pieces.

2. 1992 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera Cup USA For Sale

The 964 Carrera Cup was the first time Porsche built a 911 for one-make racing (aside from that rumored 959 cup that failed to materialize), and they’ve been operating a 911 one-make series ever since then. The current 991 Cup marks the fifth generation to receive that treatment, and it’s become quite a lucrative side-business for Porsche. The listing says that only 45 of these were built, compared to the hundreds of 991 cup cars that are built today.

The thing that is special about this 964 racer is that it is a concours winner, which is something that can’t be said for a lot of racing cars. Supposedly it has won 8 Porsche Parade concours, including one as recently as 2013, where it scored 298.2 points out of the possible 300. Very few cars are prepared to that level of detail, and certainly not racing cars.

Concours is cool, but personally, I’d rather see it racing again. Is it worth the near-$400,000 asking price? I am inclined to say no way, but hey, it’s worth what someone will pay for it. A race car with only 1500 miles, and a concours victory list a mile long does have a certain level of appreciation among the right crowd. Are you one of them?

3. 2009 Porsche 911 (997) GT3 Cup For Sale

I always love when nicely presented GT3 cup cars come up for sale, and this one seems to be no exception. An ex-NGT MOMO racing car, this one has probably served a lot of race miles. Everything I’ve ever heard regarding these cars can be boiled down to “Don’t drive a 997 GT3 Cup, because then you’ll stop at nothing to own one”. As such, I’ve thus far stayed away from them, though not entirely by choice.

There isn’t a whole lot of information on this car, but they say that the engine has 50 hours on it, and the gearbox has 20 hours. The car looks in very good condition, but obviously a personal inspection, or one performed by a third party, would be optimal here. The car also comes with a second set of BBS racing wheels, an RR Radio, and a coolbox. With a Buy-It-Now price of $86,750 it looks like it might be worth the asking price.

4. 1987 Porsche 924 S For Sale

The 924S is an odd duck. It’s basically a complete 944 drivetrain (lightly detuned) shoved into the narrower 924 body, and sold at a slight discount. By the time the 924S came onto dealer lots, the 924 body style had been around for a decade, and was looking a bit old. Only about 16,000 of these sold between ’86 and 88, and many of them have been neglected to the point that they probably won’t ever return to the road, so you won’t see one of these on every street corner, especially not as nice as this one.

Guards red, a nice set of phone dial wheels, and some Porsche script interior, this car has all of the trappings of an excellent future collectible. Because it looks so nice, this one should be well cared for by a real enthusiast. It’s not a massive investment, but hey, Magnus Walker loves his 924S. If inexpensive driving enjoyment is what you’re looking for (whether it be 1987 or 2015), the 924S isn’t a bad choice.

5. 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe For Sale

The 996 Carrera 4S is a car that doesn’t get much attention in the Porsche world, but I think it really ought to. It might be one of the best performance car bargains on the market right now, and this one is no exception. This car is essentially a 996 Turbo without the turbo and without the rear quarter panel ducts.

At 320 horsepower, it’s not going to blow you away with it’s power, but it’s a hearty increase from your standard Carrera. The all-wheel drive system is pretty good, and a marked improvement over that employed in 964 and 993 applications. The interior is a bit nicer than standard 996 fare, but nowhere near competitive with today’s cars.

This particular car is gorgeous in white over tan interior. It’s probably the exact combination I would want if I were searching for one. In fact, the only thing I don’t like about this car is the chrome turbo twist wheels. A nice set of 997 Turbo II wheels would really make a car like this pop, and provide a bit of an upgrade in terms of tire sizing. Sourcing 997 Turbo brakes probably wouldn’t hurt either.
