We’ve driven pretty much all the Porsche Macan models by now. Heck, we even got to take a Macan GTS up Pikes Peak on a lead/follow expedition with Jeff Zwart. However, to-date, we have yet to drive the 2017 base model Macan.
Introduced to the U.S. last year in New York, Porsches smallest, and least expensive, SUV comes equipped with a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and standard seven-speed PDK. Good for 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque the Audi sourced 2-liter power plant allows for a top track speed of 142 mph and 0 to 60 time of 6.1 seconds (assuming you opted for the Sport Chrono package). With no options, and not including delivery, pricing begins at $47,800. That’s about as entry level as it gets for Porsche.
Recently, YouTube darling Nick Murray brought his 991 into the dealer for some routine service. As his Porsche would be at the shop for a couple of days the dealer provided Nick with a loaner, in this case it was the base level Macan. Like any good youtuber Nick immediately hooked up his cameras, threw his pups and mascot in the backseat and started to record. The result is below.
While it may not be the most thorough review of the base model Macan, it does give you a good idea of what to expect should you decide to shop one and Nick provides some reasonable tips on how to equip the base model Macan without completely breaking the bank.
