For decades most Porsche 914s sat on the sidelines watching as their more rarified bretheren got the lion’s share of attention. Over the past 10 years pricing on air-cooled Porsches such as the 356, 930, 964 and 993s have skyrocketed, with much of the increase coming in the last two years alone. Meanwhile, 914s languished on the value sidelines; often chopped up and bastardized in ways that would make most purists cringed. 914s were loved by few and looked down at by many. However, recently and thankfully, that’s changing. Pricing for real 914-6s are reaching six figures and their smaller displacement siblings have doubled, if not tripled, in price within the last year so. Thankfully, as most of them started so low, this means they’re still within reach for collectors of even the most modest means.
One other nice perk of this increased interest in the 914 is the attention being showered on them outside of the normal owner’s forums. Take the video above for example. While not quite up to the standards we’re used to from our friends at /DRIVE, it’s clear this owner is passionate about his 914 and excited at the renewed attention they’re getting. We hope the trend continues, but doesn’t get too crazy before we can add the right one to our garage.
