The 918 Spyder is Porsche’s most expensive production car to date. For those lucky few that can afford one, spending a little extra on luggage custom developed to fit the interior is probably no big deal. Especially when you consider the fact that the luggage was designed by the Porsche Design Studio and developed alongside the 918 in Weissach.
How The 918 Luggage Is Made
Each piece is made from the same materials found in the cockpit and passenger compartment of the 918. “Handmade in Germany“, the pieces of luggage are manufactured from a unique combination of exposed carbon and authentic natural leather. The insides of the boxes, the garment covers and the suitcase are lined with Alcantara. For the style conscious, the luggage set can be ordered in the same colors as the interior of your 918 including: Garnet Red-Silver, Onyx Black-Acid Green, Onyx Black-Silver, Mocca Brown-Silver and Mocca Brown-Orange.
Available in three versions: as a five-piece luggage set, a three-piece travel set or a two-piece stowage set. The entire set comprises two storage boxes, two garment covers and a trolley.
The Trolley – Specially designed to fit in the luggage compartment of the 918 Spyder, it has a capacity of 30 liters (1.1 cubic feet) and still allows for stowage of the 918s removable roof system.
The trolley can expand to hold an additional 10 liters of clothing. However, with the trolley expanded you’ll now need to keep the roof on.
Center Console Carbon Case – This box opens on the passenger’s side and fits into the elevated center console, providing stowage space of around 4 liters (0.14 cubic feet).
Secure Storage Box – Designed to fit in the glove box, this piece provides secure stowage for any valuable items you might be carrying. Once installed it is opened and closed using the flap of the glove compartment.
Alcantara Garment Covers – You get two of these pieces with your purchase of a complete set, both of which attach to the carbon-fiber monocoque behind the seats thanks to a specially designed hanging system. Each piece includes a magnetic clasp on the inside allowing you to easily fold the two together. You’ll see what we mean in the video below.
