Doug DeMuro Explains Why The Porsche Carrera GT Is The Best Car Ever

In case you’re living under a rock, Doug DeMuro has moved on from Jalopnik and is now writing his column at AutoTrader of all places. Last week, he focused his editorial on this GT Silver Metallic Porsche Carrera GT, calling it the greatest car of all time. Discarding the hyperbole used, is the Carrera GT really better than any other car ever? I guess it depends on what you want to use it for. If you’re looking for all-out laptimes, a new Cayman will give this a run for its money around most tracks. If you’re looking for street usability, this car probably isn’t even in the top 100. For driver engagement and excitement, however, it pretty much pegs the needle.

The Carrera GT sounds like nothing else, drives like nothing else, looks like nothing else, and thrills like nothing else. As DeMuro points out, this car was among the last truly analog cars with ABS and not much else. You don’t have the electronic nannies to save you when you chuck it into a corner too fast. You don’t have traction control or auto-blip downshifts. This is a Porsche all about connection and it demands your full attention. If everyone drove Carrera GTs, you can bet texting and driving would never have existed in the first place. Look at it wrong, and you’ll regret it.

The video is decent, touching on many points of the Carrera GT’s awesome, however the production quality of the video is low to the point where it was distracting. Come on Doug, you didn’t know about the Carrera GT’s umbrella holding compartment in the door? You used to work at Porsche! I figured everyone knew about that. It’s one of the first things a Carrera GT owner will show you when they’re giving you a walk around their car.
